Daytrip Idea around Frankfurt Airport… all without entrance fee!

You can get here by car, which you can then park at the Parkplatz Luftbrückendenkmal (free). Or, if you’re taking public transport, alight at the Zeppelinheim station. Then you can either go west towards the airport and start at the Aussichtsplattform (Observation Deck) and Luftbrückendenkmal, or east into the town of Zeppelinheim to visit the Dr.-Eckener-Platz playground and the Zeppelin Museum.

Both directions are very nice walks. To the east, you’ll enter the town of Zeppelinheim which pays homage to Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin and his invention. The road and sidewalks are wide and smooth. It’s a beautiful town to live in if you don’t mind the constant aeroplane sounds. The playground at Dr.-Eckener-Platz is a cute little zeppelin-themed playground with a little fountain. A little further is the Zeppelin Museum. Entry is free, although donation is welcome and you can get a guided tour for 5 Euros.

To the west is a wide pathway across the forest, which will bring you to a footbridge across the A5 motorway. It’s a wonderful sight from up there, looking at all the vehicles go by. Some lorry drivers will even toot their horns at children who wave at them. The bridge will land you at the observation deck where you can see aeroplanes quite up-close, as it’s right next to the Frankfurt Airport.

A little walk further down south from there will bring you to the Luftbrückendenkmal – the Berlin Airlift Memorial.
