First impression: it’s a work of art. Even the packing was neat and meticulous, and rightfully so… because the beautiful book definitely deserved to be optimally protected in its long journey from the USA to Germany. Book mails are always exciting, but even more so when the packaging is so pretty and you get to pull a book in a pristine condition at the end of the process.

This is only the third hardcover book with a dust jacket that Nina has owned – with the first two, I removed the jackets altogether because we got them when Nina was younger – so she’s fascinated by this ‘new’ book format. She asked questions about the purpose of the jacket, and took time to observe it.

Then, we opened the book. The bright, vivid illustration by @angie_hohenadel is such an eye candy. We keep pausing our reading to marvel at the details of each page. I really like her distinctive style and choice of eye catching, vivid colours.

The story itself, by @hillarydaecher , is also a work of art. It’s a rhyming story with such a fluid flow and beautiful word choices that it feels like a poem at times. It’s such a pleasant read-aloud. I can’t stand rhyming stories, verses or song lyrics that without feel forced due to weird word choices

The message of the book is perfect for Nina. Soar tells a story about a young hummingbird who feels afraid when he has to fly for the first time; Nina also tends to be cautious when she has to do something new, that she doesn’t know whether she can do well or not. This story, along with the main character and his mother, just resonate so well with us.

Thank you @schifferpublishing for sending this beautiful book all the way from the USA. It will definitely be one to treasure.
